Email trouble Shooting Guide

Using email servers can sometimes be more complicated and difficult than simply connecting to websites. If you are unable to connect to websites, please see our Connection Problem Troubleshooting Guide. If you are able to view websites but cannot send or receive email, please read on.

If you can't send or receive email:

Are your mail servers entered properly? The mail server settings, which tell your computer where to get your email (from us), might not be set properly.

In Outlook Express click on the tools menu, then accounts. This will open a new window. Click on the mail tab and look at the accounts listed below. Select your EagleNet account, then click on properties, then servers. Your incoming and outgoing mail servers should both be set to mail.egl.net. Your username and password should both be entered in the appropriate boxes.

The same mail server settings can be accessed in Netscape by click on edit, then preferences. Expand the mail and news section and then click on mail servers.

Do you have DNS numbers in? Most messages about not finding the host mail.egl.net are because your computer is lacking our DNS numbers.

DNS numbers can be set for most connections by double-clicking on the My Computer Icon on your desktop, then double-clicking on dial-up networking, then right clicking on your EagleNet connection and choosing properties. Then click on server types, then click on the TCP/IP settings button down at the bottom. Here you can select specify name server addresses and type 208.159.114.2 for primary DNS and 208.159.114.6 for secondary DNS. Network users may also need DNS numbers added to their network settings to receive email unless they can use DHCP for WINS.

If you can receive email but can't send it:

Are you dialed-up to the Internet using IPASS, a connection other than Eagle, or a LAN that uses a connection other than Eagle? Unless you are dialed-up directly to us you won't have an IP Address that our mail servers will recognize. You will need to authenticate to send email.

In Outlook Express click on the tools menu then accounts. Click on the mail tab, select your EagleNet mail account, and click on properties. Click on the servers tab and put a check in "My server requires authentication."
