Setup Information for Windows 2000

Before you begin please contact Customer Support at 1-877-531-7498 to set up your new account. Note: While you're setting up your new account please keep in mind usernames can be numbers and/or letters only, no spaces, start with a letter and be 12 characters maximum in length. Passwords can be numbers and/or letters only, no spaces, can start with either a number or letter, be 12 characters maximum in length and are case sensitive.

Set Up the Connection Icon

  1. Open the My Computer icon by double clicking on it. Now open the Control Panel icon by double clicking on it. Double click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. Double click on the Make New Connection icon. This will walk you through the Network Connection Wizard.
  2. Check Dial-up to the Internet. Click Next. The Internet Connection Wizard comes up.
  3. Check I want to setup my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN). Click Next.
  4. Make sure I connect through a phone line and modem is checked. Click Next.
  5. Enter the phone number you need to use from the table below:

    You may need to put in *70, (with the comma) if you have Call Waiting (this will disable it for this call only).

  6. Click Advanced… Make sure PPP is checked. Logon Procedure should be None. Click Addresses.

  7. Make sure under IP Address Internet service provider automatically provides one is checked. Under DNS server address check Always use the following. In the Primary DNS server box enter 208.159.114.2. In the Secondary DNS server box enter 208.159.114.6. Click OK. Click Next.

  8. Type in a user name of "visitor" and a password of "eagle". Click Next.

  9. Type in a name for the connection such as EagleNet. Click Next.

  10. The wizard will ask if you want to setup E-mail. For now click no. This can be configured later depending on the E-mail program you have installed. Click Next. Click Finish. You are now ready to connect to the Internet.

Dialing In and Getting Connected

  1. Double-click your session icon that you made. You will get a Connect Name of Session You Created dialog, which is shown below. The temporary username of visitor and temporary password of eagle should be in the appropriate areas. Do not click on Save Password. If you want to save your password, wait until you receive your account confirmation from us. Click on Connect and your modem should start dialing. After a few rings, EagleNet's modem should answer.
  2. You'll see a screen like this:
  3. If you see this screen, congratulations-you're online! If you have already contacted Customer Support and have your new username and password you can disconnect by right clicking on the two computers icon in your task bar and select disconnect.
  4. Once you have your new username and password, you can begin logging on with it. You will also need to setup whatever email software that you'll be using. Your account confirmation will have all of the information your email program will ask for.

  6. If you would like to set up news groups, our NNTP News server is: news.egl.net. You will find instructions on our home page for setting this up in Internet Explorer (http://www.egl.net/support/newsgrp.shtml).
  7. To start surfing the web, dial EagleNet and open up your browser software (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator).
